Kimmy & Jack’s Fallen Leaf Lake Adventure Session | Lake Tahoe Elopement Photographer | South Lake Tahoe, California

One of the only things better than being able to show couples around my favorite place on earth, Lake Tahoe, is having Lake Tahoe locals show me THEIR favorite places around big blue! Kimmy and Jack have lived around Tahoe their whole lives. As locals, they were so excited to show me one of their favorite places to explore with their pup, Ozzy – Fallen Leaf Lake.

Now I know this might be confusing. After all, this gallery mentions ‘Lake Tahoe’ but it’s actually at Fallen Leaf Lake? Huh? Well, the Tahoe area is actually home to not only Lake Tahoe, but also thousands of smaller alpine lakes. Fallen Leaf Lake is one of the biggest of those ‘smaller’ lakes in the Tahoe basin. Nestled just off Lake Tahoe’s southern shore, Fallen Leaf Lake is a gorgeous remnant of Tahoe’s glacier carved history.

When the crowds visit, they tend to flock to the shores of Tahoe proper seeking the turquoise waters and rich alpine serenity. (Don’t get me wrong, I love Lake Tahoe for these reasons and more too!) What this means though is that smaller gems like Fallen Leaf Lake are usually very private! And this can be perfect for those of you wanting that gorgeous, mountain lake setting without the crowds. Tahoe has so many gorgeous, iconic locations, but with so much beauty in the area it’s also possible to have a spot ‘all to yourselves’.

On this trail around Fallen Leaf Lake as we adventured together we maybe saw one other person. Ozzy, in true mountain dog fashion, jumped into the lake ASAP. And found alllllllll the pinecones and sticks and had us laughing like crazy! In short, the whole evening was just such a fun, peaceful, and private time hanging out with these two.
